AFRICA’S largest family beach event, the aQuellé Ocean Racing Series, will return to Hobie Beach on Sunday, October 6, for the start of season 15, with no fewer than seven events to choose from each race day.
The series, which is unique to Nelson Mandela Bay, takes place on mostly alternate Sunday mornings at 09:00 and includes a 5km beach run, 5km beach walk, a kids’ 12 years and under 1km beach run and no fewer than four separate swim distances for the open water swimmers: a 400m, 1km, 2km and 3km ocean swim.
All races run simultaneously and all finishers receiving a chilled aQuellé flavoured water and entry into the lucky draw prize-giving which follows immediately after the last participant crosses the finish line.
Children between the ages of one and 12 have a separate age appropriate prize-giving on the beach from 10:00, with medals for the top three in age groups.
Overall top three medals are up for grabs in the other six events with a prize-giving taking place on the beach from around 10:15.
On the day, entry fees are R150 for swim events and R100 for beach events, with series members paying R100 and R50 respectively.
For the swim events, the colour coded aQuellé branded swim caps are compulsory and will be available at R30 for a silicone swim cap.
The Masakhane Future Stars programme, supported by Caltex Eastern Cape and Greenacres Shopping Centre, affords previously disadvantaged youth the opportunity to take part.
