THE Eastern Cape’s Senior Citizen of the Year (SCOTY) Awards for 2019 will be held at the Sun Boardwalk Kiplings Brasserie in Port Elizabeth on Saturday, October 5, at 14:00.
The Golden Oldies fund-raising club has run SCOTY since 2012, with winners being announced in each of three age categories; namely 70-79 years, 80-89 years, 90 and over.
There are also special mentions in the 100 and over age group, as well as one overall winner.
The SCOTY initiative promotes active ageing and endeavours to bridge the gap between youth and senior citizens.
The initiative also inspires young people to draw from the experience and wisdom of their seniors, as well as motivating them to make financial provision for their retirement years.
SCOTY recognises and honours the contributions, in both time and effort, volunteered by the senior citizens in local communities, to make a difference.
