FOR many years a tree of light has been a hospice symbol of hope and celebration all over the world where people can pay tribute to someone special by hanging lights on a large Christmas tree that burn for the duration of the festive season.
But now, St Francis Hospice has broken away from this tradition to enable departed loved ones to be remembered all year long.
The memory wall will allow families and friends to remember loved ones by submitting a simple message which will be transcribed onto a card and placed on the wall.
The memory wall is situated at the entrance to St Francis Hospice in Taybank.
Contributors are encouraged to bring family members and friends to visit and read the personal messages.
St Francis Hospice director, Trevor Wiblin, said the memory wall would be a physical, tangible façade – much more than the light bulb virtual memory – remaining in the foyer at hospice all year round and not limited to just the festive season.
Cards can be purchased from St Francis Hospice at a cost of R50.
It bears the name of the person being remembered, their dates of birth and death, and a short tribute.
