Residents of ward 6 should be on the lookout for a new traffic circle that will be erected in Circular Drive outside Africa Timbers.

Construction is set to begin in March and should be completed within approximately six weeks.

Ward councillor, Morné Steyn, said that the property developers who are responsible for the development, have promised minimal traffic disruptions during the construction.

When asked how the construction would affect motorists’ routes through this busy street, Steyn explained that the road would be widened by removing parts of the pavement on each side in order to make space for the new traffic circle.

Since it won’t be a huge construction, there will be space for motorists to pass through, although it may affect travelling time.

“It shouldn’t actually impact on the flow of traffic,” he said.

Steyn mentioned that there are definitely benefits tied to the construction of a traffic circle at this particular spot.

“The intention is to ease traffic flow for vehicles attending the companies in the (Africa Timbers) development, as well as the entry and exit of vehicles to these developments not to block traffic when turning,” Steyn added.

“Driving up and down the street. there are very few areas where you can turn along Circular Drive. You have to go down the left lane, otherwise you can only cross over Circular Drive at the intersections.

“It is a very busy road that carries a lot of traffic, especially from the western suburbs and the traffic circle would actually allow for some more entrances into this specific area,” he said, pointing at Africa Timbers.

According to Steyn, this will be Circular Drive’s fourth traffic circle.
