Why not make bath time fun by making fizzy bath bombs with your child? You will be spending some quality time with your little oneand he/she will have loads of fun seeing their handiwork come to ‘life’. TANYA VAN ZYL and her daughter Emily (6) share this recipe.
You will need:
220g bicarbonate of soda
120g salt (Epsom salt works the best)
40g cream of tartar
64g corn flour
10ml essential oil (we used lavender)
30ml oil (we used olive oil, but any oil will work)
food colouring (we used powder colouring)
A mould to shape the bombs
Note: Have all the ingredients already measured out and ready before you start.
Method:
- Combine all the dry ingredients together in a glass bowl and whisk it together.
- Mix all the oils together in a separate bowl. If you are using liquid food colouring, you should add it with this mixture. Because we used powder colouring, I added it to the dry mixture.
- Add the wet ingredients to the dry mixture a little at a time and mix with your hands as you go (use gloves to avoid staining your hands at this stage).
- Spritz the mixture with water if necessary to blend the ingredients well. Your mixture should hold it shape when squeezed together.
- Fill your mould with the mixture and pat it down as tightly as possible.
- Let your bath bomb set for a few hours or overnight.
- Once it is out of the mould it is ready for use – just add it to a nice warm bath and watch it fizz away! Enjoy . . .
