THE Motherwell Football Association (MOFA) has appealed to their clubs to continue to stay safe indoors during the Covid-19 pandemic.
MOFA general secretary, Masixole Button, said it was imperative that MOFA clubs should follow the precautionary measures in curbing the spread of the coronavirus.
Button said, “We, at MOFA, fully understand that our members are used to taking part in sport, but almost the entire world is affected by this coronavirus pandemic.
“We know that it is boring to be indoors every day, but we are all forced to do so. Members are very safe when they stay indoors.
“Lockdown is implemented by the government and I believe that if we follow the guidelines in fighting the spread of coronavirus, we’ll be safe.”
One of MOFA club chairpersons stated that he saw some teams training at Nelson Mandela Freedom Peace Park on Wednesday.
The chairperson, who wanted to remain anonymous, said, “It is worrying me to pass Peace Park and see training going on as usual.
“I do not know which team it was, but they are training and there is an adult that appears to be a coach instructing the boys there. Can someone please make sense to those people.
“Clubs who usually train there might know which team the players belong to. Lockdown means stay home. The coronavirus kills.”
Button stated that, “the defying and ignorant members must stop training, otherwise they will face disciplinary action.” Button said, “All our members must know that all MOFA league matches and other activities are suspended until further notice.
“Please, colleagues, let us all try our best and adhere to the rules and regulations set by our government during this nationwide lockdown.
“The coronavirus pandemic is real and spreads rapidly. Being outdoors not only puts your life at risk, but the lives of other people, too. We do not want to see our players and other people dying of Covid-19. Please stay home and be safe.
“I know the decision to suspend all our sports activities was not an easy one to take, but it is a precautionary measure. I would like to thank the members who abide by the rules and regulations set by the government during this lockdown.”
