MAMELODI Sundowns FC Eastern Cape Supporters provincial coordinator, Lulamile Mzayiya, who lives in Motherwell NU 9, decided to run a programme to raise awareness on Covid-19 lockdown compliance among the youth of Wells Estate recently.
Mzayiya, who is known as Ruu by his fellow supporters, decided to concentrate on the youth of his home township club, Wells Estate United FC.
According to Mzayiya, the fundamental objective of the programme was to help to flatten the curve of the spread of the coronavirus.
The youth were taught the importance of wearing masks, keeping social distance, washing hands with water and soap for 20 seconds at a time and general hygiene.
“I have observed that the youth and children need to be shown some direction,” said Mzayiya.
“They roam the streets with some of them not wearing face masks and do not stay indoors.
“What makes me worried is to see the children and senior players playing games (when they are supposed to be staying at home and social distancing).
“We also informed the juniors and seniors that they should sanitise their hands regularly.
“We told them that they should not use someone else’s mask.
“I made them aware that their face masks should be washed after they had used them.
“Now (all the players and management of) United FC are mindful of the fact that no competitive games, training or sports gatherings are allowed during the lockdown,” reported Mzayiya.
Wells Estates United FC management and players participated very well during the programme when they worked together with Sundowns Eastern Cape Provincial coordinator.
Mzayiya said the players and management showed a keen interest in learning and they were enthusiastic because they benefited a lot from a programme.
