THE Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium surpassed the number of 1 000 admissions since the first patient intake as a COVID-19 isolation facility.
The stadium is operated by the Mandela Bay Development Agency, an entity of the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality.
Following the news of the 1 000 mark, NMBM Acting Mayor, Councillor Thsonono Buyeye, said the difference made by the isolation facility was vital, as healthcare workers nursed the patients back to full recovery.
“One thousand is a significant number. When those people were in isolation, it meant thousands of other people were saved, as we stopped the spread of the virus in families, workplaces and communities at large.
“We are extremely proud of the work that has been and continues to be done at the stadium,” Buyeye said
“The partnership between the metro, the MBDA and the Department of Health has been successful as patients have recovered.
“We keep improving the service daily, as we have also added training sessions for the patients to help with breathing and keeping a healthy mind and body.”
Numbers vary during the day, as patients are admitted and others discharged.
