IN a recent statement, SAFA Johannesburg region CEO, Colin Jones, said amateur football will remain under lockdown, despite the messages and information that have been incorrectly distributed stating otherwise.

“We find it disturbing that some secretaries have the audacity to distribute incorrect information about football, of which no information from SAFA has been received and no information was sent to any SAFA member about football resuming,” the statement read.

“Only PSL structures were given the go-ahead by government to complete the league(s) and no (amateur) structure under SAFA is allowed to play football until advised to do so.

“We urge members to advise all football structures within your areas of the lockdown rules and to not be malicious by issuing documents illegally obtained, such as procedures and guides for COVID-19 and the return to play/train for amateur leagues.

“The safety and health of children, especially when they are not your own, is our primary concern.”
