NEWLY promoted side, Volcano Ladies’ FC, is busy making plans to strengthen their squad for the forthcoming provincial ladies’ Sasol League.

The Motherwell side recently acquired the services of two star players from Wells United FC. The new players who will don the team’s red and white jersey are Mihlali Mcoyana (13) and Oyama Mafisana (11).

According to Volcano LFC chairperson and head coach, Mzuvukile Reggie Khesi, the two players have come at the right moment, before his side campaigns in the top-flight football.

Khesi said, “We, as the club, would like to welcome the two new players. Their presence is going to be highly felt and they will make a huge difference to the club. Definitely, these two players are going to gel with other players and they are going to add value to the club.”

Pamela Mcoyana, the grandmother of Mihlali, told PE Express that they are a family of nine who depend on her employed husband for their survival. Mcoyana said, “Mihlali loves playing football; that is why I bought her a pair of brand-new football boots.

“In fact, I was encouraged by Volcano LFC coach, Khesi, after he recruited my granddaughter to play for his side.

“Khesi came to my house and he told me that they were interested in the services of Mihlali.

“I agreed with Khesi because Mihlali will play for the properly run ladies’ side.”

Mihlali, a Grade 6 learner at Coega Primary School, started playing soccer at Wells United in 2017 and has been playing soccer with boys.

Mihlali said that she would like to play for the national team one day.

Mcoyana also bought a pair of brand-new boots for Oyama, who is a Grade 5 Coega Primary School learner.

Mcoyana said, “Oyama is my neighbour’s child who is very passionate about sport, especially football. Despite being an unemployed grandmother, I decided to buy boots for Oyama.

“I believe that ‘your child is my child.’ Sport keeps the children off the street and there is a bright future for Oyama in sport.”
