THE ANC’s Ward 23, Unit Xolani Makasi, celebrated Heritage Day in a different way this year when members of the community got involved in aerobics and dance at Nelson Mandela Freedom Peace Park in Motherwell NU 3.

A local health club instructor, Andiswa Pikoli, took the centre stage in involving the community members, who came out in numbers and enjoyed the session. The Master KG and Nomcebo hit song, Jerusalema, kept the audience moving.

ANC Ward 23, Unit Xolani Makasi, and chairperson, Lukhanyo Wasa, revealed that the community of Showvillage is ready to combat crime.

He said that people live in fear of being mugged and robbed of their belongings.

“Today we live in fear because there are lots of break-ins, armed robberies, drug abuse and alcohol abuse. They are social ills that we are faced with on a daily basis.

“We are also deeply concerned with the ways things are happening in our municipality that is named after a revered father of the nation, Dr Nelson Mandela.

“Our children must take part in sporting activities rather than doing crime. We are more than ready to clamp down on crime in our community,” said Wasa.

ANC Motherwell head of elections cluster chairperson, Lumkile Nogoboka, said that Heritage Day reminded people of where they had come from and where they were going, as a united nation of South Africa.

Nogoboka said, “We must unite against corruption and fraud, because there are defenceless and hungry people whose resources are being stolen.”

ANC branch executive treasurer, Bukelwa Gqoboka, thanked all the people who were in attendance and those who participated in the aerobics.
