The man
from Bolotwa locality in Dutywa, who is suspected of murdering his alleged ex-girlfriend, will appear in Dutywa Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.
Viwe
Rulumeni (22) is accused of killing Asithandile Zozo (20), a student from Wits
University, on August 17 in Dutywa.
Rulumeni’s
case was postponed until tomorrow so that he can get new legal representation.
According
to the Spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Luxolo Tyali,
Rulumeni’s defence attorney withdrew his services after reading the docket and
realised that he knew the father of the deceased.
“Rulumeni
allegedly assaulted, chocked and stabbed the deceased in full view of a number
of witnesses. After he allegedly committed this crime he attempted to commit
suicide by drinking pesticide chemicals,” said Tyali.
Zozo’s 11-year-old sister allegedly also witnessed how she was attacked and killed.
News24 earlier reported that Charlene Beukes, Director of Wits Gender Equity Office, described Zozo as a determined and driven young woman.
“He (Rulumeni) had threatened that he would take her life if she left him. His family asked her to stay for her own safety,” she told News24.
On 18 August Zozibini Tunzi, Miss Universe, wrote on Twitter: “My
little sister’s friend, a beautiful joy to me and my family. She was stabbed to
death by a boy because she didn’t want him. I don’t even know what to say.”
