Following the completion of the multimillion rand Standford Road and N2 Bridge construction earlier this year, the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality officially launched the bridge on Friday, October 30.

NMBM roads and transport portfolio head, Councillor Rosie Daaminds, said the bridge was launched to celebrate the progressive work conducted and to inform road users that the bridge is now officially safe for use.

“The aim of the project was to improve the Integrated Public Transport System (IPTS) infrastructure in order to incorporate additional vehicle lanes and this forms part of the NMBM public transport plans for the entire metro.

“We also fixed a little bit on the Sanral roads so that there can be fewer accidents.

“The value of the project was R31million and 12 SMMEs benefited from the project,” Daaminds said.

NMBM communications officer, Mamela Ndamase, said, “The project was funded solely by the city through the Public Transport Network Grant and falls under the city’s Integrated Public Transport System (IPTS).”
