SOMALI nationals joined hands with the Motherwell NU 2 community, when they decided to organise an annual tournament which will be played by Milan Stars and Motherwell United on Saturday, November 7.

Mohamed Sagal, who owns the Matanzima Supermarket, stated that the management of his shop had decided to organise a tournament for the two community clubs in his area, with the aim of thanking the community for supporting his business.

“The motive behind running the tournament is to plough back to Motherwell NU 2 Community.

“We are sharing what we have with the community because they have supported us since the year 2000,” Sagal said, adding that they wanted the youth to play sport and be healthy.

Milan Stars chairperson, Major Pikoli, stated that they have a sound rapport with the Matanzima Supermarket, as part of the community of Motherwell NU 2.

Stars manager, David Ngxishe, revealed that the tournament was organised for the U/13, U/15 and senior soccer teams and netball sides of Milan Stars and Motherwell United.

Ngxishe said, “The soccer seniors go home with the first prize of R400, gold medals and a floating trophy while the runners-up will get R400 plus silver medals.

“The juniors’ winners get a floating trophy and gold medals, while the runners-up settle for silver medals. The netball winners get a floating trophy plus gold medals, with the runners-up getting silver medals.”

United’s head coach, Mpumelelo Mchani, explained the rules of the tournament to the players and he said that “soccer will be played at Nelson Mandela Freedom Peace Park grounds on November 7, while netball will take place at the community netball court within the clubs’ area”.

Stars president, Nyanisile Rala, urged the youth to protect the businesses of the foreign nationals and local business people.
