A GROUP of local friends plan to cycle from Jeffreys Bay to Port Elizabeth to raise much-needed funds for the Gelvan Park Frail Care Home and the Malabar Home for the Aged.

The ride, led by local businessman, Iqbal Sain, will take place on Sunday, November 29.

“Each participant is raising sponsorship for the ride called the Bay2 Bay Charity Ride. This is not a race but a fun ride,” Sain explained.

“Some of us will be cycling the entire distance, while others will be going as far as they can. There are also some who will be covering the distance in a relay and a third group which will be joining us jogging along the way.”

Sain added that family and friends were encouraged to meet the cyclists at the finish line and bring along donations of non-perishable goods for the two organisations. Cash donations will also be accepted.

Gelvan Home treasurer, Gishma Johnson, said, “The decision by the group is really appreciated. At the best of times it is a struggle to keep our heads above water and we depend on donations and fund-raising. Due to COVID-19 we have not been able to organise any fund-raising this year.”
