In order to boost tourism and share Nelson Mandela Bay’s tourist attractions with friends and family across the world, the municipality recently erected two “selfie booths” in the metro.

These booths are huge frames where people can pose for a selfie, with breathtaking scenery in the background.

They have been erected at the Shark Rock Pier and the Donkin Reserve, two of Nelson Mandela Bay’s most popular attractions.

Ward 2 Councillor, Renaldo Gouws, said that he was very excited that one of the booths could be found in his ward.

“Soon our residents and visitors will be able to share our beautiful pier with the rest of the world. This is something I’ve been begging for,” Gouws said.

“I am very happy that this project has been implemented as I have been asking for something like this since I became a councillor.

“We have magnificent beauty in Nelson Mandela Bay and one way of showing it off is by creating structures like these that motivate people to take photos of where they are, so it serves as a marketing tool,” he said.

“They have been strategically placed where most people would interact with them, thus directly and indirectly promoting our beautiful metro by showing the branding of the metro and where in the country and in the world they are.”

Gouws said that residents should expect more of these initiatives in this ward.

Executive director of Economic Development, Tourism and Agriculture (EDTA), Anele Qaba, said that these booths were erected to promote and market iconic tourism attractions in the metro.

“They will also serve to create awareness of product offerings in Nelson Mandela Bay in order to keep the destination top of mind when making travel decisions,” Qaba said.

“For our local tourism, it would encourage domestic and local travel and with additional exposure, more potential visitors will be aware of the metro’s iconic attractions and offerings,” he said, adding that more selfie booths would be erected at strategic iconic tourism attractions around the Bay.
