Eastern Cape Premier, Lubabalo Oscar Mabuyane, has tested positive for COVID-19.
According to a statement released by the Eastern Cape Office of the Premier today (Thursday), Mabuyane exhibited flu symptoms and decided to get tested for the virus.
“When the results came back positive, Premier Mabuyane started informing his family members, staff in his office and some of the people he had met with recently about his test results and is encouraging those that might be displaying similar symptoms to take COVID-19 tests,” the statement read. It further said that Mabuyane encourages any person he met with during the last seven days to get tested if they have any symptoms, in order to know their health status.
“Premier Mabuyane is isolating at home where he will continue with his official duties using technology for meetings and communicating with his office, members of the Executive Council, leadership of the local and national government and other stakeholders.
“The provincial government wishes Premier Mabuyane a speedy recovery as he isolates at home and will support him through this recovery process. All the events and programmes that the premier was going to attend, have be postponed for now,” the statement concluded.
