KEMPA United head coach, Zonwabele Victor Hlulani, along with his friends and player, Samkelo Dumse, came to the rescue of the Makeleni and Nkomo families, whose home at Chris Hani informal settlement in New Brighton burnt down on December 23, 2020.
Hlulani said that he and Dumse were on their way to help the people living on the streets in the town by bringing them bread and other food on December 24, when they saw the shack had completely burnt down.
He said that he went to the scene of the incident and he was told what happened.
“The Makeleni and Nkomo families, who lived under one roof, saw their home burnt to ashes by a person they know well.
“We talked to an old lady who told us the whole story. We were so touched after we heard the story.
“Nozizwe Makeleni lives with her son, daughter and eight grandchildren, including a four-month-old baby.
“Nobody was injured in the fire but they were left with absolutely nothing, except the clothes they were wearing.
“We were told that the suspect has been arrested but his name will be made known after he has appeared in court.”
Hlulani appealed to his friends and Dumse to do something for the families.
“I humbly appealed to my friends, Vuyisile Viva Mguda, Zamxolo Zet Mdani and Mhunku Jacobs, as well as Dumse, that we should help the destitute families.
“These guys were also so touched and agreed to help the families.
“My friends, Dumse and I collected some clothes for these families,” explained Hlulani.
He thanked all the people who made contributions to help the families.
“I thank all those who opened their hearts to make a difference during this tragic moment.
“I also appeal to anyone to help the families with building materials so that they could have a shelter of their own.
