STAFF and students of the IIE’s Varsity College Port Elizabeth did a holiday gift drive to treat the children and staff at the House of Resurrection Haven Children’s Home, to brighten their holiday.
The haven is a NPO in Salsoneville which offers a secure and sustaining home to children who are infected or affected by HIV/Aids or abandonment.
They are active in the fight against the spread of HIV/Aids and the fight against stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV/Aids and also support people with the disease.
The children usually would go home to their family or a relative over the holiday season, which they look forward to.
Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, as well as them being a vulnerable community, they had to stay at the haven.
Jessica Kable, a second year IIE Bachelor of Arts student and VC Voice president 2021, said, “The experience of performing the smallest act of kindness altered my perspective in the most meaningful way.
“The delight I felt within, reflected in the smiles of the caregivers of House of Resurrection Haven, was momentous,” Kable said.
