Baby abandoned

This baby boy, estimated to be about two to four months old, was found abandoned in an open space in Mthatha.

Police in Mthatha are requesting the assistance of the
public in locating the relatives, parents or mother of a baby boy found abandoned
in Efata Extension, Chris Hani Park, on January 8 this year.

According to provincial police spokesperson, Capt. Khaya
Tonjeni, the baby is estimated to be approximately two to four months old and was
found in an open space early that morning by members of the community.

“The infant is currently being kept at a place of safety
while tracing of his unknown parents and relatives continue.  A case of child abandonment was opened and is
currently under investigation,” Tonjeni said.

Anyone who knows of parents or a woman that recently gave
birth but is suddenly without the child, or knows relatives of the infant, is
urged to contact the investigating officer, Sgt. Nomaphelo Tshikila, from the Mthatha
FCS Unit on 083 865 0247 or 047 531 2170 during office hours.
