THE South African Football Association (SAFA) announced on Thursday, January 14, that they have taken a decision that all teams affiliated to all SAFA Regional Men’s League and ABC Motsepe League would no longer participate in the Nedbank Cup.
SAFA took this decision after taking into account the following:
. Introduction of adjusted level 3 lockdown by government, prohibiting all non-professional football activities from taking place as from December 28, 2020.
. To avoid SAFA being viewed as irresponsible by allowing non-professional matches to continue playing, because sports matches are among the events that spread the virus.
“The association would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused.
“However, we have the responsibility, as an association, to mitigate the risk of spreading the virus and saving lives,” said SAFA CEO, Tebogo Motlanthe.
“We thank you for your anticipated support to save lives of players, match officials and everyone involved.”
