Transnet National Ports Authority, partnered with the Nelson
Mandela Bay Municipality, recently handed over hundreds of food vouchers to
communities affected by COVID-19.

Food vouchers for the needy

Hundreds of food vouchers were recently handed over to needy families in Nelson Mandela Bay.

Beneficiaries of the 500 food vouchers, that included child-headed
families, the disabled and the elderly across the metro, were delighted to
receive the donations, as the impact of COVID-19 has left many households in a
much worse state than before.

Deputy mayor of Nelson Mandela Bay, Thsonono Buyeye, said
that this donation will have a great impact on these households. He explained
that the NMBM had made a call upon businesses and many have come on board to
help the needy.

“Many businesses have assisted big time and today, Transnet’s
donation came at just the right time as schools are about to open next week. We
know the challenge of stationery and all other challenges that come about when
schools are about to open,” Buyeye said.

“We are also very happy that they identified the elderly as
well as the child-headed homes and the disabled people in our City to benefit
from this programme. We know that the need there is greater,” he added.

One of the beneficiaries, Lindile Mthulu, thanked Transnet
and the NMBM for this donation. “I am very grateful for this voucher because it
will really assist me and my family,” he said.
