THE South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL) hereby requests a Right to Reply to an article published in the PE Express newspaper, on Wednesday, February 17, 2021.

The article titled, “‘Chatty Dip’ traffic lights to become four-way stop”, written by Candice Bezuidenhout, quotes the municipal spokesman as saying that the traffic lights located on the R75 are the responsibility of SANRAL.

Unfortunately, SANRAL was not approached for any comment.

The infrastructure for the traffic lights was provided by SANRAL based on a memorandum of agreement (MoA) that was entered into with the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro (NMBM), whereby it was agreed that the street lighting infrastructure shall be maintained by the municipality in perpetuity.

Therefore, the operations and maintenance of the traffic lights are the responsibility of the municipality.

Mbulelo Peterson,

SANRAL Southern Region Manager
