The swift response from the K9 unit members resulted in the
arrest of a housebreaking and theft suspect on Saturday, and the confiscation
of metal and iron pipes.
According to police spokesperson Col Priscilla Naidu, it is
alleged that that incident occurred at about 11:20 when the members responded
to a call from the security guard at a country club in Victoria Drive in Walmer
that two suspects were in the building.
“The guard spotted them through the broken window. On
arrival, the K9 members with their dogs secured the premises from all sides.
One suspect, a 19-year-old teenager was seen carrying metal and iron pipes and
was ordered to stop,” Naidu said.
He was detained on a charge of housebreaking and theft and
is expected to appear in the Port Elizabeth magistrate tomorrow, March 1, 2021.
