LOCAL armed response officers and members of the community conducted a successful clean-up operation in the Baakens Valley area on Friday, March 5, after complaints of illegal activity in the vicinity.
“We have received and responded to a number of complaints of criminal activity involving homeless people in the vicinity, and have deployed a team of officers to conduct a proper search of the area. This was supported by the Valley Edge Community members, who were phenomenal in their support and continue to work tirelessly towards keeping their neighbourhood safe,” said Ryan Britz, Port Elizabeth branch manager for Fidelity ADT.
The suspects, he added, have reportedly been linked to incidents of common theft and housebreaking within the area.
“It is illegal to live within the Baakens Valley area, and it is considered a security risk to people living in surrounding areas.
“Our clean-up operation allowed us the chance to carry out a proper search of the area and to look for anything suspicious or out of the ordinary,” said Britz.
The team of armed response officers and community members discovered hiding places, which led to them cleaning out the litter and materials that they came across.
“If you encounter any unlawful activity in the area, we ask you to contact the police or our monitoring centre as soon as possible,” said Britz.
