Thaakirah Mohamed, self-published author of Mercy, will be launching her book in Gqeberha later this month.
In this book, the 32-year-old tells the story of her journey from being abused to healing.
Despite facing adversity and many challenges in life, Mohamed has lifted herself onto her feet every time. She is a victim of abuse, a cancer survivor, endured a miscarriage, and yet she remains positive. She is now a motivational speaker, gender-based violence activist and expressed herself through art.
Her aim is to encourage other gender-based violence victims to break their silence and stop the scourge of abuse.
“I found that once I started talking about my experiences, I felt better. I then decided to write about my experience and pen my emotions onto paper. This has provided me with a sense of relief and accomplishment,
“I called my book Mercy, as it is through God’s mercy that I am able to tell my story, break my silence and become a beacon of hope to others who are trapped in the claws abuse,” said Mohamed.
The book was first launched towards the end of last year in Cape Town, where Mohamed now lives, after relocating from Johannesburg, her birth place.
- Locals will have the opportunity to meet Thaakirah and buy the book on March 26 at the Windermere Hotel in Summerstrand from 15:30 to 17:00. Mohamed will host a follow-up book signing session on Saturday, March 27, at 10:00 and at 15:00, and again on Sunday, March 28, at 11:00. Brunch will be served at a cost of R100.
