SIX months ago, a man from Sherwood disappeared without a trace, only a few days after he sent a voice message on WhatsApp to his son, telling him how much he loves him.

Adriaan Scheepers (55) was last seen in Harlech Street, where he was staying in a granny flat, on September 29, 2020.

On the day of his disappearance, the owner of the property saw that the door of the flat was open. Moments later it was closed and after that Scheepers disappeared.

The owner called Scheepers’ brothers, Louwrens and Raymond, to inform them that their brother had gone missing, after which they reported the incident at the Kabega Park police station.

According to Louwrens, his brother had never gone missing before.

“He was on foot and left his motorbike behind. He left everything behind, just walked out with his clothes he had on,” Louwrens said.

A few days before his disappearance, Scheepers sent a voice message to his son, clearly struggling to hold back the tears.

“Hi my big boy, you should sleep well. Take care of yourself and look well after ‘Lollotjies’. Just remember one thing: daddy will always love you, no matter what. Please take very, very good care of yourself, please.

“Daddy loves you very much and misses you so much, will always. Goodnight, my child. Bye,” the message read.

He also sent a WhatsApp message to his ex-wife three days before he went missing, saying: “I just want to say if anything happens to me one day, everything in the house should go to you and the children.

“Please show this message to my two brothers.”

Louwrens said that his brother got divorced nine years ago, but that there were no problems between him and his ex-wife.

“The children are taking it very badly and if my brother can see this article, I just want to tell him that the children would want their father back,” Louwrens said.

When asked for an update on the case, police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg, confirmed that Scheepers was still missing.

Anyone who can assist in locating Scheepers, is asked to urgently contact the Kabega Park Detectives Crime Office on 041 397 6802/041 397 6867 or 082 442 1282, call Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or visit their nearest police station.
