Two of the three people killed in a shooting incident in Perridgevale on Friday have been identified.

They are Davedene Van Zyl (21) and Johannes Bruintjies (36)
from Mpuko Street, Timothy Valley. The two were together when they were shot.

Police spokesperson, Col. Priscilla Naidu, has confirmed
that the incident is possibly gang related. The innocent bystander also killed
when he was hit by stray bullets, has not yet been identified. It is alleged
that he was on his way to George whilst the other two bought tickets to Gauteng.

Van Zyl and Bruintjies were gunned down when they exited
the ticket offices of a bus company after purchasing their tickets. Van Zyl
collapsed right outside the office and Bruintjies made it to a nearby shopping
centre before he collapsed. The innocent bystander was hit when he left a shop
on the promises. The suspects then allegedly fled in a silver-grey Honda Civic.

After the shooting, Mount Road police members spotted a
silver-grey Honda Civic driving in Burt Drive, Newton Park with no registration
plates.

“They followed the vehicle and as they tried to pull it
over, it sped away. Approximately five males were in the vehicle. During the
chase, a firearm was tossed out of the vehicle in Searle Road. The vehicle
crashed into a lamppost in Neave Street in Shauderville. All five occupants got
out and ran in different directions,” Naidu said.

Anti-Gang Unit members assisting the Mount Road members,
spotted two males, both with firearms running across Highfield Road. The
members chased after them and they were apprehended in Peddie Street, Korsten.
Two firearms, a revolver and a 9mm pistol, were recovered. The vehicle was
reported as hijacked in Humewood earlier in the day.

“The arrested suspects have been linked to the murders and
will be charged accordingly,” Naidu said.

They will appear in court on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 on three
cases of murder, two of attempted murder for shooting at police officials,
illegal possession of firearms and ammunition and the possession of
suspected stolen property.
