The Maranatha Streetworkers Trust NPO has announced its first-ever Maranatha Market, set to take place on the grounds of their organisation, nestled behind the airport in Southdene.

Scheduled for Sunday, December 1, from 09:00 to 14:00, this market promises to be a local favourite.

The Maranatha Market will boast a variety of stalls displayed in the new hall opposite the main entrance. Attendees can look forward to an array of items, including plants from Maranatha’s Garden nursery, bric-a-brac, toys, pictures, books, and Christmas decorations. Adding to the vibrant atmosphere, the market will feature a thrifting section, where clothes, including pieces from ‘Oh So Georgie Preloved’—a well-known name in city markets like ‘From London to Lorraine’—will be available.

A notable highlight will be the fresh produce stalls offering free-range eggs and frozen chicken products, all produced on-site at Maranatha’s butchery. This initiative is part of their poultry project, which plays a crucial role in generating income for the organisation. To add to the culinary delights, visitors can savour homemade chicken burgers, along with coffee and other hot food options, making it an ideal spot for breakfast or lunch during the market visit.

Programme Manager, Harrison Dax Nash, encouraged families to attend. “A bouncy castle will be set up for children’s use on the day, ensuring fun for the little ones while parents explore the market.”

The event is free of charge with the added convenience of safe and free on-site parking. It promises something for everyone, making it an ideal outing for both young and old. The proceeds from this market are vital for raising much-needed funds to support Maranatha’s mission of providing care for adults and children in Nelson Mandela Bay and the Eastern Cape Province at large.

Maranatha Streetworkers Trust, the umbrella organisation that includes the Maranatha-Siyakatala Child & Youth Care Centre for 34 children and young people in need of care and protection, values community support. Nash emphasised, “Donations are welcome at the market. This is a great opportunity to find an early Christmas bargain and support the projects run by Maranatha.”

Donations needed at the organisation include household items, toiletries, groceries, garden tools, and animal feeds for the poultry project. Nash added, “We have a big dream of acquiring a new combi to assist with transport.” Market attendees are encouraged to bring along a new pair of socks or a tin of food, as these contributions can particularly help the adults accommodated on the premises.

The organisation, which has been making a difference since 2002 under the leadership of Dr Trudi Basson and Albie Basson, invited everyone to join them. Visitors can access the centre via Forest Hill Drive and follow the Maranatha MST Facebook page for updates on future markets and events.
