Widespread showers and thundershowers are expected for the East Cape region from Thursday, 29 April.
According to a media statement by the South African Weather Service (SAWS), a steep upper air trough, a surface trough and a ridging surface
high pressure on Thursday is expected to result in scattered to widespread
showers and thundershowers, with heavy down pours expected in places.
“Severe
thunderstorms are possibly associated with strong winds, large/small hail and
excessive lightning that could result in damage to property, disruption of
power supply and could result in injuries to livestock and livelihood,” SAWS said in the statement.
Cold conditions are expected to spread in from the west on Thursday, persisting
into Saturday in the east.
“Very cold conditions are expected over the
northeastern high lying areas on Friday, with possible light snow over the
mountains in the Senqu (Barkly East area) and Elundini (Maclear area) Local Municipalities.”
Not much rain, however, is expected in Nelson Mandela Bay’s catchment areas, said Garth Sampson from the PE branch of SAWS.
