VETERAN Bay powerlifter, André Ludik, was recently awarded honorary membership of the South Africa Powerlifting Federation (SAPF), in recognition and appreciation of his contribution to powerlifting.

A career that began in modesty, as a powerlifter in 1988, grew to see him serving the sport in the capacity of referee, coach, meeting director and administrator. This long career was made colourful by achievements including titles and records in different weight categories including Master 3 bench (137.5kg), dead-lift (215kg) and total (507.5kg), both provincially and nationally.

Adding to the accolades mentioned above, Ludik has also been in the management of the sport, holding various positions including coaching the SA national team in international events. He also took some powerlifting enthusiasts under his wing, leading some of them to glory in national and international championships.

Finally, Ludik currently heads up the coaching and referee portfolios of the SAPF, following a stint as vice-president of the same organisation.
