Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality’s Anti-Vandalism campaign
continues to close space on criminals and vandals that destroy and steal from municipality
infrastructure and facilities.

On Friday at approximately 22:00 at Zwide Stadium, a
caretaker reported that there were intruders on site busy digging underground
cables.

These are some of the tools that were confiscated from the criminals caught in action.

A specialised Municipality Security Services Tactical
Response Team swiftly responded to the complaint within minutes. Upon arrival
the officers found the suspects digging up a cable.

As they tried to arrest them, four suspects managed to
escape and two were arrested and handed over to police in KwaZakhele.

Nelson Mandela Bay Anti-Vandalism Steering Committee Chairperson,
Annette Lovemore, said that the City has adopted a zero-tolerance approach to
vandalism and theft of municipal infrastructure.

“We will not
stand by idly while thieves help themselves to our assets. Not only does every
such theft cost us money, but it deprives our residents of the services they
deserve. If every resident is as vigilant as the Zwide Stadium caretaker was in
this case and the response team reacts as fast as they always do, we will beat
this scourge, arrest by arrest,” she said.
