The Nelson Mandela Bay taxi strike that was planned for tomorrow, Monday, May 10, has been called off.
NMB mayor, Nqaba Bhanga, announced today (Sunday) on his social media platforms that the strike has been called off following a fruitful meeting with taxi associations.
“Today we had a meeting with the leadership in the taxi industry to resolve some issues that we had been confronted with. I am happy to announce that we have agreed with the taxi industry on a number of issues and by tomorrow, the operation of the taxis and buses can resume,” Bhanga said.
“That is a decision that was taken by the taxi industry,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Algoa Bus Company also announced on their social media platforms today that their services will continue tomorrow due to the taxi strike being called off.
The company initially cancelled their operations for tomorrow due to the strike as a means to protect their employees and passengers.
“Our buses will be operating normal hours tomorrow,” the company announced this afternoon.
