Welcoming the appointment, NMBM acting city manager, Luvuyo Magalela, said that Mfeya brought with him a wealth of experience in the human settlements environment, on an executive management level.

“We have high expectations that his appointment will augur well for our institution. The advent of the coronavirus pandemic not only caught governments unawares, but it also highlighted the need for improved services for the most vulnerable,” Magalela said.

He added that the restoration of human dignity by providing decent housing for the poor, innovative spatial planning and urban renewal were just some of the areas that require renewed focus and dedication.

“I would like to wish him well on behalf of the municipal administration and welcome him to our team.”

Mfeya obtained a master’s degree in urban and regional planning at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, served as the Director of Human Settlements and Property Management at the Stellenbosch Municipality, was housing manager at the Sol Plaatje Municipality and was a programme manager at the City of Johannesburg.
