Joubert Primary School learners will once again receive their daily meals following a disruption, caused by a burglary, that saw kitchen supplies stolen in February this year.

The feeding scheme was aided by a partnership between the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) and their longstanding collaborator, Love Story, a non-profit organisation, founded by Luke and Elaine Watson in 2012.

According to the IDC’s CSI manager, Tebogo Molefe, the partners were moved by reports of the theft.

“We were moved by the article and tapped into our relationship with Love Story to see how we could come to the school’s aid to temporarily assist them and ensure that the learners who depend on these meals are not stranded,” Molefe said.

Elaine Watson further added that the foundation of their organisation was based on assisting with alleviating the plight of hunger within society.

“Assisting those who are destitute has always been close to our hearts and we are grateful for partnerships such as those with the IDC, as we can reach out to even more people through our efforts,” she explained.

Joubert Primary School principal, Mervin January, indicated the importance of the feeding scheme, as the meals provided at the school were often the only meals the learners receive.

“We package the surplus of the daily cooked meals and send those home with some of our learners who need it the most to benefit their families,” January said.
