The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Mayoral Committee has given a nod to a once-off offer for the reality TV show, The Ultimate Braai Master, to shoot its season seven exclusively within Nelson Mandela Bay.

During a recent mayoral committee meeting, it was agreed to the opportunity that will showcase the metro to the world as the reality TV show will air on e.tv and Netflix.

The Ultimate Braai Master is a South African reality cooking show that celebrates one of the country’s favourite activities, which is to braai.

The best cooks across the country are shortlisted and compete against each other through a series of tough challenges set in some of the most beautiful landscapes South Africa has to offer.

The teams need to battle it out, one challenge at a time, with amazing prizes up for grabs, including R1 million.

Season seven will be shot differently from previous seasons, where different episodes were filmed and produced in different cities across the country.

Nelson Mandela Bay Mayor, Nqaba Bhanga, said that the metro believed sport and entertainment unified the people and that it was not about politics.

“We support this. This show will put us on Netflix; we will be watched by the entire globe and throughout South Africa we will be the centre of attention.

“We don’t want to compete with Durban and Cape Town; we are competing with the world. We are not setting the bar low,” he said.

“Our Department of Sport has hosted quality activities. We want to see value for money as our hospitality industry has suffered and we want to inject money that will assist the industry.

“We should be an ambitious city for us to be prosperous.”

Deputy Mayor, Thsonono Buyeye, added that the metro welcomed the show and the massive exposure the metro would receive.

“It is what we have been calling for: that we should be a destination of choice for such events,” he said.

The metro will invest R2 million towards the six-week production.
