A CLARION call has been made for aspiring writers within the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality to attend a five-day writing seminar to be held at the Mendi Arts Centre in New Brighton from June 7 to 11.

The seminar, made possible by the Red Location Digital Library and Archives, in partnership with Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Libraries, aims at empowering communities within the metro in the development of skills that will allow participants to effectively and articulately communicate with an amplified voice, while sharing in their love of reading and writing.

The seminar incorporates fun and interactivity that will allow for participants to work in close proximity with industry professionals and experts in the field of writing.

While the emphasis is on creativity, writing skills, articulation and coherence, a selection panel will be put together to judge the applicants on the following:

. Short creative stories or poem

. Must be at least one page, but maximum three pages

. Must have a cover page with name and surname as in their ID document

. May be handwritten or typed

. May be written in your mother tongue

The seminar and its programme aims at producing 40 budding writers from the NMBM.

Participation in the seminar requires that all prospective attendees complete an official registration form, which is accessible from local NMBM libraries or from the NMBM website at www.nelsonmandelabay.gov.za and submit the completed registration form together with examples of their work via the libraries or scan and email these to nsikhosana@mandelametro.gov.za.

The closing date for the submission of the application form is Monday, May 31, 2021.

The conclusion of the seminar will see participants submit their work either online or in a hard copy format for screening and evaluation, towards inclusion in an anthology of suitable manuscripts that will be published.
