The outgoing principal of Machiu Primary, Ralph C. Blignaut, was present at the handing over of the keys of the office to the newly appointed principal, Elroy Rhagosingh.

Blignaut retired last year but, prior to that, during the challenging time of the pandemic, Rhagosingh, in his capacity as acting deputy principal, learnt first hand about school administration and governance, from the seasoned veteran.

“I knew I was retiring in 2020 and I also knew I could not leave without training someone to steer the course while the post was being filled.

“Rhagosingh has been an admirable lieutenant during my tenure and, as far as I can ascertain, his temporary captaining of Machiu Primary, has been stellar,” added Blignaut.

The Machiu SGB chairperson, Rano Kayser, said the selection process was long and thorough.

“We know we have chosen the best candidate to lead Machiu Primary through these tough times and to gear the school up for the Fourth Industrial Revolution,” said Kayser.

At an assembly, which adhered to COVID-19 protocol, on Tuesday, June 1, Rhagosingh was officially introduced to the learners and surrounding school community.

Principals from the surrounding schools were present at the event.

To round off the celebrations, each child was given a party pack, with educators also receiving a sweet treat.
