New Brighton detectives are investigating a case of murder after an e-hailing taxi driver was shot dead in the area yesterday, Thursday, June 17.

It is alleged that police responded to a complaint
of shooting in front of a house in Skomolo Street at approximately 15:30.

An e-hailing taxi driver was shot dead yesterday afternoon in New Brighton.

Police spokesperson, Col. Priscilla Naidu, said that upon arrival at the scene, they found a
light blue Datsun Go that collided with a boundary wall.

“A 38-year-old
male sustained a gunshot wound to his head. It is further alleged that
prior to the collision, three passengers were in the vehicle. The deceased is
not the owner of the vehicle,” Naidu said.
 

The circumstances of and motive for the shooting is yet to be
established. No suspects have been arrested at this stage.

Police are investigating a case of murder.
