The body of a Flying Squad member (33) was found at his home in Gqeberha at the weekend after he allegedly committed suicide.
Provincial police spokesperson, Brig. Tembinkosi Kinana, confirmed the incident.
“According to the information, the deceased member was on the phone with a person believed to be his ex-wife when a gunshot was heard. She allegedly informed the police, who went to investigate and found the officer already deceased,” Kinana explained.
“The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation. The police will not make any speculations at this stage. An Inquest docket is registered and no arrest made,” he added.
“The police are unaware of challenges faced in the family and family members may be in a better position to speak on the issue,” Kinana concluded.
