MOTHERWELL Academy made history, lifting the SAFA Nelson Mandela Bay SAB Regional League trophy, after they played to a goalless draw against New Brighton Academy at Motherwell NU 2 Stadium on Saturday.

New Brighton, also known as the Britons, gave the home side a tough time. Motherwell were desperate for goals to break the deadlock. The hosts could have been 1-0 up, but Britons’ goalkeeper, Fundisa Linda, denied Likhona Mbem a goal in a one-on-one situation. Linda got injured at the stroke of half time and it seemed that Motherwell would come up with their opening goal.

Linda who was limping due to the ankle injury kept on pulling off brilliant saves. The home side pushed many players forward, but Linda stood his ground. The Britons had nothing to lose and kept on launching more attacks.

The good news finally arrived at the stadium where fellow title contenders Camper United had lost 3-1 to Bay Tigers at Zwide Stadium. Motherwell lifted the prestigious regional league trophy for the first since they started campaigning in SAFA NMB SAB Regional League.

Motherwell will represent the SAFA NMB during the promotional play-offs, which will be announced shortly.
