THE 15th Sunridge Village Family Run/Walk will be held on Saturday, May 13. The start gun for the 10km race will be at 07:00 and the 5km race at 07:15.
Being the 15th anniversary of this sought-after event, organised by the Port Elizabeth Amateur Athletic Club (PEAAC) and Sunridge Village Shopping Centre, it once again promises to be a great event.
“We welcome the star runners from all over the Eastern Cape,” said the president of PEAAC, Les Barnes. “It is so encouraging to see the hundreds of students and families participating in these events.”
This will once again be a fun-filled family affair with fantastic hampers as lucky draws. The main lucky draw prize is a R2 500 shopping experience from Sunridge SuperSpar.
“Although an official EPA Participating Road Running League event, it also caters for the whole family with distances of both 5km and 10km,” said Sunridge Village Shopping Centre manager, Suzanne Fincham. “The school with the most bulk entries will earn themselves a R1 000 prize, so we encourage all schools to participate and support the event.
Other fun category prizes include First Family Home, Parent and Pram, Dad and Dog, and Mom and Tot. Entrants wanting to qualify for these special prizes must indicate this at registration. However, there is a restriction of one dog per entry.
Timed results will be available for the 10km race, posted on the windows in front of Sunridge Build-It shortly after the prizegiving. Pictures and results will also be available online at www.sunridgevillage.co.za.
Online entries can be done via the website up to 17:00 on Thursday, May 11. Bulk entries for schools can only be done manually at the Sunridge Village Centre Management Office before close of business on May 11.
Fincham can be contacted on suzanne@sunridgevillage.co.za for copies of the entry form for bulk entries.
Festivities commence on Friday, May 12 at 17.00, with pre-registration and late entries in the mall (same place as in previous years) at Sunridge Village Shopping Centre situated on Kragga Kamma Road in Sunridge Park. Registration closes at 19:00.
On Saturday morning, May 13, there will be pre-registration and late entries from 05:30 to 06:45.
Various stores at the centre will control the three water points on the route, with a watering hole for dogs at the first water point. The prizegiving will take place directly after the race at 09:00, in the area adjacent to the de’Swan Restaurant and Shell Service Station.
Prize money for various age categories is up for grabs in the 10km race. There are gold, silver and bronze medals for the first 750 participants who finish before the cut-off time in the 5km and 10km races.
On Saturday morning, additional parking will be available in the park in Camelia Avenue off Aster Avenue, close to the centre.
