PRETORIA – North West University Eagles and Tuks have booked their places in next Monday’s FNB Varsity Cup final after convincing semi-final victories on Monday.
The Eagles dominated Maties 50-10 at the Fanie du Toit in Potchefstroom, while Tuks defeated UJ 53-34 in the second semi-final.
Both matches followed similar patterns, with closely contested first halves giving way to second-half dominance by the eventual winners.
NWU and Maties were locked at 10-10 at the break before the Potchefstroom side took control after the interval. The Eagles ran in seven tries in the second half to seal a comprehensive 40-point victory, shutting down any hopes of a Maties comeback through superior attack and defence.
The second semi-final between table-toppers Tuks and UJ was level at 8-8 at halftime. The second half proved breathtaking, with Tuks powering away from their opponents to win 53-34.
The final kicks off at 19:00 on Monday, 13 April.
