An additional 10 000 men and women, aged 18 to 35 years, are being recruited to be trained as police officials to protect and serve the country.
Lt. Col Sergio Kock of the police’s media centre said they are looking for patriotic citizens who are willing to proudly pursue a career as entry level police trainees for the enlistment in the Basic Police Development Programme (BPDLP).
The basic requirements are as follows:
- be a South African citizen;
- be 18 years or older, but not older than 35 years;
- be in possession of a matric certificate;
- have no criminal record;
- submit to a medical examination and be physically and mentally fit;
- undergo a psychological assessment that complies with the profile of a police official;
- be prepared to successfully complete police training;
- not have tattoo marks which are visible when wearing any uniform of the police;
- a valid driving license for a motor vehicle will be an advantage; and
- applicants must be prepared to serve anywhere in South Africa.
Kock said there are over 200 career paths in the police force, such as Visible Policing, Crime Investigation, and support environments.
Benefits after the successful completion of the BPDLP includes:
- a 13th cheque (bonus);
- leave benefits;
- service allowance;
- night shift and holiday allowances (shift workers);
- bursary (available internally);
- once-off cash payments (acquired improved qualification); and
- once-off cash payment and long service medal awards (recognition of long service for 20, 30 and 40 years).
Application forms can be obtained free of charge at any police station or police recruitment office, or download it from the police’s website at saps.gov.za.
Applications must be hand-delivered to an applicant’s local police station during office hours on or before the closing date of 31 August.
