A social impact programme, which has impacted over 7 000 learners over the past five years, has once again made a meaningful difference in the lives of Gr.1 learners. This year, over 2 000 learners across 17 primary schools in the Sol Plaatje and Dikgatlong Local Municipality received brand-new school bags.

This programme, funded by Matla A Bokone Solar, aims to instill pride, boost self-esteem, and instil a spirit of enthusiasm for learning in young learners.

“The excitement on the faces of the learners upon receiving their new school bags was a testament to the significance of this initiative. Matla A Bokone Solar has been a thoughtful sponsor to us. We are grateful,” said Memoria Duze, a teacher.

The initiative also stimulated a local, black woman-owned small, medium and micro enterprise (SMME), creating temporary employment for two youths, thereby empowering learners, supporting local businesses, and creating job opportunities.

“This support aligns with the country’s constitutional commitment to education as a basic right,” said Lesego Mosiane, social performance practitioner for Matla. “By collaborating with the Department of Education, local suppliers, and other stakeholders, this initiative ensures that no child is left behind due to a lack of resources.”

Schools benefiting include the Sol Plaatje Primary School, St Peters, Floors North, Progress, Isago, Tshiamo, Molebahangwe, Monsthiwa, Flamingo, Beacon, Tshwarelela, Pniellandgoed, Letshego, Lucretia, Roodepan, Mosalakae, and Delportshoop Intermediate School.
