It is said Marekwa brings with him a wealth of experience in local government. He was previously the acting executive mayor of the municipality.

Considered well-suited to steer the municipality for the latter period of the term of council, Marekwa will focus on service delivery, strengthening stakeholder engagement, and providing support to the four local municipalities within the district.

The municipal council has expressed full confidence in the mayor’s leadership.

In addition, the municipality extends its gratitude to the previous executive mayor, Unondumiso Buda, for her service, leadership and dedication.

“We wish her well in the new role she assumed with her political party,” the municipality stated.
