Truineveve Beatrice Gunda (22), a graduate of the Upington High School, was recently nominated to participate in a national worship challenge via Zoom.
Trunkelz, as she is affectionately known, took part in the WOW Sunday Melody Challenge on 24 May.
She was born in Paballelo, Upington, and started singing at the age of nine.
Trunkelz is the eldest daughter of Neville and Gertrude Gunda. She has two sisters, Andonay (12) and Almonia (15), and a two-year-old brother named Malachi.
She recently appeared on Republiek van Zoid Afrika with Karen Zoid on DStv’s channel 145 as a backing vocalist and is working with an international worship artist, Jonathan McReynolds, from the USA.
Her singing career started at the Vela-Langa Primary School and then she went on to attend the Upington High School where she became a member of Camarata (girls’ choir) from Gr. 8 until Gr. 12.
She’s currently doing her final year in music at the Cape Music Institute in Cape Town.
She is doing different genres, but her main focus is gospel, in particular worship.
Trunkelz performed at various occasions with local, national and international artists having shared the stage with Rebecca Malope, the queen of SA gospel, Shaleen Surtie-Richards, the late Ricardo Green, Charisma Hannekom from Joyous Celebrations, and Thato Makapi, Idols SA 2019 finalist, to name but a few.
She manages her own events and speaks to young girls about life experiences and challenges.
The Upington High School said in a statement that with this initiative, she will be motivating young girls to chase after their dreams regardless of the challenges.
