Nearly 50 persons from Loeriesfontein have benefited from the Learner’s and Driver’s License Programme to date, with the second cohort successfully passing their driver’s license tests, marking the completion of the initiative’s second phase.

Funded by the Loeriesfontein and Khobab Wind Farms, this community-focused programme aims to help residents acquire their driver’s licences, broadening access to job opportunities and promoting road safety through proper training and certification.

The second phase saw eight participants tested, with three successfully passing their driver’s license test, while an additional ten individuals sat for the learner’s license test.

“This has made a significant difference in my life. Having a valid driver’s licence has opened up more employment opportunities for me, as many jobs require it. It has boosted my confidence and put me in a better position to support others in my community,” said Niclodian Nel, one of the beneficiaries.

Instructors were appointed to facilitate the training, reinforcing the initiative’s commitment to community empowerment through job creation and skills development. Practical lessons took place at a site provided by the local municipality, while a room rented from the Loeriesfontein Management Services served as the venue for the theoretical lessons.

Furthermore, two local businesses were contracted to arrange transportation for participants and provide daily meals, contributing to the smooth running of the programme.

“Supporting local service providers is central to the way we implement our community programmes. Not only does it keep investment within the community, but it also strengthens local capacity and creates job opportunities. It’s a win-win for both the programme and the people of Loeriesfontein,” said Vanessa Fredericks, economic development manager for Loeriesfontein and Khobab Wind Farms.
