Despite Saturday’s loss of 7 โˆ’ 37 against the Lions at Ellis Park, the Griquas have secured a home semifinal match in the Currie Cup, set for Saturday on home-ground at the Suzuki Stadium in Kimberley. For this match, the Griquas are planning to regroup, tighten up the gain line, and sharpen their handling.

The loss against the Lions pushed the Northern Cape team from their top spot on the log to number two, with the Lions roaring with 26 points, and the Griquas with 25.

The match against the Lions was delayed by more than an hour due to lightning. When play finally began, it was the Griquas who struck first. The Lions, however, responded and at half-time the Lions had a 15 โˆ’ 7 advantage. The second half was all about the Lions. Though the Griquas continued to fight, they struggled to regain territory and possession against the Lions’ pace and power.

On Saturday, at the B-field of the Suzuki Stadion, an ultimate game day experience is taking place. Entry to the Fan Park is included with your match day ticket. The Gemsbok Bar opens from 15:00, a Six Gun Grill braai takes place on the field, with jumping castles and food vendors. Live performances by Reggie at 16:15 and by Loufi at 21:15 are also taking place.

Lions and Boland Kavaliers are the other two of the four top teams to be participating in the Currie Cup semifinals. They will meet on Saturday at 17:00 at Ellis Park in Johannesburg.

The final match will be played on Saturday, 20 September.
