Rugby supporters across the Frances Baard District Municipality were treated to a thrilling weekend of club rugby as three matches across the region delivered dominant performances, fierce competition and one unforgettable clash.
Thursday set the tone in Hartswater
Under the floodlights, Hartswater Rugby Club produced a commanding performance as they dismantled Rooikatte Rugby Club by 56โ5 in a powerful display of attacking rugby. From the opening minutes on 12 March, Hartswater controlled territory and possession, driving their forwards hard and unleashing their backs with speed and confidence.
Rooikatte battled bravely but struggled to contain the relentless pressure. Try after try followed as Hartswater turned the match into a statement victory that sent a clear message to the rest of the region.
Friday in Jacobsdal produced another high-scoring battle
The clash between Jacobsdal Rugby Club and Kimberley Rugby Club’s (KRC) Sables on Friday began as a competitive contest, with Jacobsdal feeding off strong home support and showing real determination.
But as the match progressed, the Sables began to take control. Their structured attack and powerful carries opened gaps in the Jacobsdal defence, allowing them to pull away on the scoreboard. By the final whistle, KRC Sables secured a convincing 56โ25 victory, showcasing their strength and depth.
Saturday delivered the weekend’s thriller
In front of a passionate crowd, Universal Rugby Football Club faced KRC’s Duikers in a match that had supporters on their feet from start to finish.
Universal came out firing, matching the Duikers physically and attacking with confidence. The Duikers responded with sharp counter-attacks and clinical finishing whenever opportunities appeared.
The game became an intense back-and-forth contest, with both teams trading tries in a fast and physical encounter.


In the end, KRC Duikers edged the contest 38โ31, holding their nerve in the closing stages of a match that could easily have gone either way.

Across the Frances Baard rugby community, the weekend highlighted the strength of club rugby in the region.
